The Virginia General Assembly is moving steadily toward final approval of a proposed constitutional amendment to ban homosexual marriage.
The Senate Privileges and Elections Committee on Tuesday, February 15th, changed a House measure to make it identical to a Senate measure to limit marriage in Virginia solely to one man and one woman.
Measures in both chambers have won lopsided victories already, assuring passage for the eventual compromise in the remaining days of the 2005 session.
To become part of the Virginia Constitution, however, the same gay-marriage restriction must pass again next year, then be ratified by voters statewide in the November 2006 election.
