Police and rescue crews responded to an accident involving a train and a car at 2nd St. Southwest and Water Street in Charlottesville.

There were no serious injuries reported. The 44-year-old driver of the car was seen walking around after the accident. He was the only person in the car.

The Amtrak train had just left the Charlottesville train station, so it was not traveling fast.

Police said the railroad crossing arm was down and the train's whistle was blowing, but the driver tried to beat the train and drive around the arms.

The driver did not want to talk to the media.

After about an hour delay, the train left to return on to its destination.

The driver has been cited in the accident.

Robert Pines occupation- IDIOT You are so clueless. Here is how it works, OBEY the law. When the gates come down STOP, pretty simple huh...Who gives out these driver licenses to these idiots anyway. Police saw the idiot drive around the gates...Looks like a clear case of stupidity. The dirver should be thrown in jail for trying to derail the train...a terrorist act...

I was on that train. It wasn't a big deal at all. I didn't even feel the car crash into us. Everyone was just wondering way it was taking so long to leave the station. Like , there wasn't even a nudge or anything the train just stopped.

Okay, if you are correct, then what would the police, the railroad company and the media be gaining? Why would they cover up something like faulty railroad crossing bars? Because it's expensive to fix?--I think the city of Charlottesville has enough money for that. Plus I would think the media would have used any kind of interview from the driver (if he did in fact speak with the media), rather than just a police report.
