Emilie Myers of Waynesboro is really glad Mother Nature gave the region some snow and gave herself and her four kids some unexpected fun. She said, "I'm in graduate school. So on the way home, I said everyone pack up and get ready and we'll head on up to the slopes."
The Myers weren't the only ones with that idea in mind. With schools closed in the area and inches upon inches of piled up snow, parents came with children to Wintergreen Resort to slip on those skis.
Monticello resident June Pulliam said, "We've actually been trying to do this for a couple weeks now, but the weather's been more on the warm side. We wanted to come on a day where there's more snow and more runs open, so this seemed like the day to do it."
Yet, any day would have been just fine for young skiers who were glad to be out of the classroom.
"You get out to play in the snow and it's fun," said Elise Myers.
Public Relations Director at Wintergreen Mountain, Frankee Love couldn't be happier with the turnout. "Just from what I can tell, they're maybe 3,000 to 3,500 people here total, which is really good," said Love.
