About 1.4 million Virginians took to the highway this holiday season according to AAA, and they found lower gas prices across the state.

Average gas prices have dropped by 13 cents in the Charlottesville region in the last month, with the average price at $1.75 per gallon.

And while that average is still higher than the prices in both Richmond and Roanoke, it's about six cents per gallon less than just two weeks ago, and those lower gas prices are definitely good news to many local drivers.

However, the price drop may not last too long. According to AAA, there's a good chance OPEC will cut its price production next month.

Just last year, the price of a gallon of gas in Charlottesville was $1.40, 35 cents per gallon less than today's reduced prices.
