Seven Cars Caught on Fire

Charlottesville Police were called to assist in an early morning rash of car fires in downtown.

The fire department put out seven car fires in all.

The fire started at 300 4th Street Southeast at the Norcross apartments. The fire is said to have started at the front end of a 1998 Mercedes SUV and spread to six other cars. Police are treating the fire as arson and are investigating the blaze.

"When they arrived, they found one car on fire, which spread to several other cars. The fire is of undetermined origin at this time and we are in the preliminary stages of our investigation," stated Charlottesville Police Department Det. Mark S. Fields.
