Central Virginia's Snowy Road Conditions

February 28, 2005

According to Virginia State Police, there were close to 150 accidents on Virginia's roadways on Monday, February 28th from 1:00am to 6:00pm. Most of those crashes only involved damage to cars, and very few involved any injuries.

Along Interstate 64 near exit 120 leading to Fifth Street, Virginia State Police said a car slammed into a truck owned by the Virginia Department of Transportation. Officials said that around 3:30pm, the driver of the compact car slammed into the back of a snow plow truck. The driver of the car was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Along U.S. Route 29 close to the Albemarle County Line, Virginia State Police says around 1:00pm, a Jeep Grand Cherokee with five people inside was going too fast. The Cherokee lost control which caused it to crash into the guard rail. One person from this accident was rushed to the hospital with glass in their eyes.

As for the number of fatalities in these and other accidents, the Virginia State Police said none have been reported.
