A quarter-billion dollar budget recommendation has been presented to the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors, with property owners expected to pay for the bulk of expenditures.

42 percent of total revenues come from property taxes, which went up an average of 13.6 percent, due to a strong housing market.

This is similar to the city of Charlottesville, where property increased between 12 and 15 percent.

The county's $255 million budget will have a 3 million dollar 'reserve' that may be used for a tax reduction, or on school expenditures. Right now schools total 67 percent of all county expenditures.

You'll have a chance to give your opinion of the budget at a public forum on March 9. The meeting will be held at the new county office building off 5th Street extended.
