Artist Showcase At First Friday

Charlottesville is building a reputation as a cultural city, and another step in that direction is the opening of First Friday on March 4, 2005.

Hundreds of art lovers came to marvel at the works of artists of all genres, who displayed their creations at the McGuffey Art Center.

There was something for every taste and style including mixed media collage, watercolor, and pen-and-ink.

Artists said they are excited to be part of this growing tradition.

"It's very rewarding and it's thrilling to see something that I've worked on for so long to be matted, framed and hung on a white wall with great light," said Laura Call Gastinger, an artist.

"It's great. There is always, every First Friday there are four or five openings going on of individual shows," said Judy McLeod, another artist.
