The Albemarle County Board of Supervisors passed a resolution Wednesday night, January 12, that Whitewood Park along Whitewood Road be renamed in honor of former Board member and Chairman Charlotte Humphris.

Humphris served on the County Board of Supervisors from 1991 to 2001. She passed away last September after a battle with cancer.

Humphris was known as a supporter for rural preservation.

"It's very appropriate that a park is being named after Charlotte," said Board Chairman Dennis Rooker. "She was instrumental in protecting Whitewood Park, making certain that it remained as an open space in a very urban part of the county."

A ceremony to officially rename Whitewood Park is set to take place sometime in the spring.
