Dominion Sells Nearly 600K Energy Saving Light Bulbs

January 9, 2008

(AP) Dominion Virginia Power says people have bought nearly 569,000 energy-saving light bulbs under its discount program.

The Richmond-based utility is offering $1.50 off single packs and $3 off multipacks of compact fluoresecent bulbs purchased at Home Depot stores in northern, eastern and central Virginia.

In three months, customers bought 568,822 bulbs, which consume about 75 percent less energy than traditional bulbs, and can last up to 10 times longer.

The utility says it aims to distribute 2.25 million discounted bulbs each year through 2009 and is looking to offer the discount at more retailers.
