Stafford Parents Indicted In Death Of 2-Year-Old

January 10, 2008

(AP) The parents of a 2-year-old girl who was strangled while strapped in a car seat inside her home have been indicted by a grand jury.

Timothy and Charity Demas were indicted Monday in Stafford Circuit Court on charges of felony child neglect, child abuse and child endangerment in the October death.

According to an affidavit for a search warrant filed in Circuit Court, Timothy Demas told police the child was put in the car seat because she was being fussy and was left alone. Charity found the child the next morning with the straps from the car seat around her neck.

She was pronounced dead at a hospital later that day. The couple is also charged with four misdemeanors involving alleged neglect.
