They say home is where the heart is. Well, if that's the case, Marshall Pryor's heart will forever be in C-Ville.

"It's just a great place to grow up. It wasn't Mayberry, but it certainly was a great environment where everybody knew everybody, "said Marshall Pryor, VP of Albemarle First Bank.

Pryor grew up just a few short blocks from the downtown mall.

He was partner and general manager of the Young Men's Shop for almost 40 years before he started working at Albemarle First Bank about three years ago.

But regardless of what he was doing professionally, Pryor has always made it a point to give back to the community.

"I like to be involved in the activities of the community, and those activities have had some service to the folks in the community and some benefit to the folks in the community, and there's a great deal of satisfaction from that," said Pryor.

Over the years Pryor has been involved with organizations including the United Way, the Red Cross, the Salvation Army, the Charlottesville Albemarle Rescue Squad, and the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation, just to name a few.

His community involvement was so extensive; Pryor was awarded the 2004 Paul Goodloe Mcintyre Citizenship Award by the chamber of commerce.

"It was quite a surprise. It really was. I had no inkling. I think it was an award really in recognition of all the work that a lot of other people have done. Cause I’ve never done anything myself," said Pryor.

Even with the accolades, Pryor knows that it takes a whole community to really make a difference.

"I think things that have meant the most to me are seeing other people get involved," said Pryor.
