Wall Street banker Al Scales Reynolds grew up in Virginia, graduated from UVa, and his first job was selling shoes on Barracks Road in Charlottesville.

He encouraged kids to focus on the process of reaching their goals and not on the goal itself.

Reynolds is in town to launch a new after-school program at Sutherland. The program, called A Step Beyond, encourages cultural awareness, career exploration and academic growth among African-American students.
