Crime tape surrounds a parking lot in the Trophy Chase apartment complex along Commonwealth Drive. Police say this was where 19 year old Ashley Tony from Buckingham County was shot Thursday, January 27th, in the early morning hours.
"I was asleep and then around 3:30, I just heard lots of arguments and commotion and next thing you know you heard about three gunshots," said Siobhan Rolingson.
Police say a group of about 15 people were at the scene when cops arrived. They found the victim wounded in the backseat of a car.
"She was taken to the University of Virginia hospital where she was declared deceased, " said Lt. John Teixeira of the Albemarle Police Department.
Authorities said the shooter had fled the scene, but they now have 21 year old Phillip Green in custody. Residents say nothing like this has ever happened before.
"There is a rather heavy law enforcement presence for one reason or another, but nothing this severe has ever happened," said resident Greg Hargreaves. "It's rather a shock."
Green is being held at the Charlottesville Albemarle Regional Jail and faces charges of first degree murder and the use of a firearm in commission of a felony.
Police are also looking for his cousin, Christopher Green, as a person of interest in the shooting.
