A store owner in Albemarle County thought he felt an earthquake Saturday afternoon. But when he walked to the front of his store, he found a black Kia had crashed through the window.
Mark Kavit is the owner of Diabetic Comfort Shoes on Berkmar Drive. He says the man who drove through the window wasn't a customer, and he doesn't know how or why he ended up in front of his store.
"I really don't understand why he was over here. It was an elderly man who did tell me that he thought he was putting his foot on the brake and actually was putting his foot on the gas," said Kavit. "It sounded like he actually hit the building twice."
Monday, Kavit began cleaning up the mess. The car was removed from the window after a Fire Marshal and structural engineer determine the severity of damage. Kavit says the building will be boarded up while extensive work is done to repair the interior and exterior.
Kavit says the damage was estimated between $25,000 and $55,000.
