UVa Professor Passes Away

January 23, 2008

UVa Professor Steve Nock passed away Sunday after battling a long-term illness. During his many years at the University of Virgina he won numerous awards for his teaching.

In 1991 he was presented with the all university outstanding teacher of the year award. Nock will be most remembered for being a happy person.

Music was also something the professor loved. Many people remember Nock for his singing and whistling in the hallways.

"He's the kind of guy that in the hallways, over lunch, just kind of made it a more inspiring happy place" said Paul Kingston, Associate Dean of Arts, Humanities at UVa.

A memorial service for Nock is being held on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Old Cabell Hall.
