Area kids got in touch with Mother Nature on Thursday, March 31. Some local high school students competed in an Envirothon at Walnut Creek Park.
Five students selected from each high school were tested on their environmental knowledge on five different subjects, such as forestry and soil.
According to Envirothon competitor Dan Duvall, they became 'one with nature' a while ago to prepare for this.
"We got a trunk that was given to us at one of the meetings and we decided to go ahead and work on the forestry. We used sticks to measure the log length," Duvall said.
The competition was organized by the Thomas Jefferson Soil and Water Conservation District.
