First Northwest Airlines' Flight Leaves Charlottesville

Video will be available shortly.

April 4, 2005

Northwest Airlines made its first round trip flight from Charlottesville to Detroit on Monday, April 4. The airline's new service takes off from
Charlottesville-Albemarle airport non-stop twice daily.

Beginning in August, there will be three non-stop flights from Charlottesville to Detroit daily. Our very own reporter Venton Blandin boarded the plane for its first flight, and joined us LIVE from Detroit, Michigan.

According to Venton Blandin's report via telephone, "The flight went quite well. It started right there at the counter to check in at the Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport. The staff was expecting lots of people to come through, and were waiting to greet them as they came in."

Venton Blandin also added, " We had a couple from Charlottesville who were flying to Detroit as a connecting flight to their destination of Amsterdam. They look forward to this new service especially because they often visit foreign countries. The plane we were on was a Saab 340 which is basically a commuter plane able to carry about 34 passengers. It measures up to 65 feet, and reaches 300mph through the air."
