Police say a skull and some bones have been found at the site of a suburban Richmond mall that's being demolished, but they say the remains may be from an old burial site.
Chesterfield police say contractors discovered the remains when they were digging six to eight feet into the ground at the old Cloverleaf mall site on Tuesday.
Experts told WTVR that authorities will soon start taking a look at cold cases to see if there is a match to the remains.
The Richmond-based CBS affiliate reports the area where the remains were found was used as farmland decades ago, which leads investigators to think the discovery could be from unknown or unmarked family graves on the site.
Crews tore down the mall last month to make way for a 123,000-square-foot Kroger anchor store expected to open later this year.
