About 100 lucky kids got to tee off at the Meadow Creek Golf Course after school Tuesday, April 19. Kids aged 7-14 participated in the Drive, Chip and Putt Junior Challenge.
Once the scores were tallied kids were awarded prizes in each category and age group, and best overall. Some kids took home metals, golf clubs and plaques. The Golf Channel sends the winners to regionals, and if they qualify again, they'll go to nationals.
The kids are excited about that opportunity.
"When you go to nationals you get to go to Walt Disney World, and I would love to play golf in Walt Disney World because I've never been down there before and it would be a great adventure," said junior golfer Richard Timberlake.
"That would be so awesome, I can't wait, if I do make it, but I can't wait if I do," said Cassidy England, who scored a hole-in-one during the putting challenge.
The event was sponsored by First Tee of Charlottesville, Mutual of Omaha, and the Golf Channel. It was free for all participants.
