The United Way's Program Review and Funding Committee decides what local agencies get how much of your contributions. This takes over 1,000 hours of their personal time and this year has been harder than most.

"It's 15 individuals right here in our community committed to make a difference," said Jim Fitzgerald, United Way's Marketing Director. "Their job is so difficult, especially this year, since we don't have the funding that these programs need."

United Way is almost $300,000 short of reaching its goal. This is largely due to people donating to the tsunami crisis, rather than locally.
