The Albemarle County Board of Supervisors have passed their county's budget. In a meeting at the county office on Wednesday, April 20, the six members of board voted unanimously to approve the 2005-2006 budget totaling more than $255 million. The board also approved an attachment of $11,000 as requested for the county's fair, July 4th fireworks display, and African American festival.

"It was the result of numerous work sessions that the board had, and two public hearings and I think that we all came together and decided that the board was the best way to fiscally handle the budgets and the tax rates of fiscal '05-'06," said Chairman of the Board Dennis Rooker.

$3,000 will go to the African-American Festival, $5,000 will go to the July 4th Celebrations, and $3,000 more will go to the County Fair.

Included in the budget which tops more than $255 million, is funding for the police and fire departments. Supervisors also reduced the taxing of real estate to 74 cents per $100 of property value.
