Nine prisoners in the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail completed the New Beginnings Transitional Re-entry Program. It's geared at keeping inmates who are about to be released from prison ending up back behind bars. This marks the first time a program like this has been offered for local prisoners.

For six weeks, the prisoners took classes, learning things such as anger management, aids awareness, and job readiness.

Some inmates say it's made a world of difference.

"After going through the program I've realized that there is a possibility of doing better," said inmate Robert Williams. “I’m changed now."

The program will be mandatory for prisoners starting next month.
