Mothers Against Drunk Driving recognized Delegate Rob Bell with the Outstanding Legislator Award for his leadership. He helped author House Bill 2255, which cracks-down on drinking and driving, especially for under-age drinkers. But he says the event wasn't just about about him.
"This isn't just something that I did in Richmond," said Bell. "Mother's Against Drunk Driving came down, the state police testified, all these groups came down together to get the law passed--so all I did was get to carry the bill."
"The officers don't get enough recognition--they never do, and the thousands of people that get to go home safe every year never thank them because they don't know they got home safe because the officers are out doing their job," said President of MADD Central Virginia Chapter Andrew Torget.
Legislators passed the bill and it has already gone into effect, handing out harsher punishments to underage drinkers as well as those that provided them alcohol.
