For the first time ever one nationwide fundraiser hit the streets of Charlottesville tonight. The inaugural "Light the Night Walk" hit the streets of downtown Charlottesville. The event is held by the Leukemia and Lymphoma society to raise money and awareness for blood cancers. Participants walked 2 miles carrying lighted balloons. Organizers say they re glad Charlottesville is a part of the event this year.
“One of the girls in my class is a survivor, and the other girls’ little brother passed away from it so I’m here to support them, and to support the cause,” said participant Katie Davenport.
The organizers estimated that they had 400 people walk the Downtown Mall for the event.
