Some Recommend CPR Changes

Video will be available shortly.

Some in the medical field believe CPR should not be practiced with breaths to the mouth. They say it interrupts chest compressions which causes an interruption also in blood flow to the brain.

Currently the standard method is performed with a combination of 15 chest compressions and two breaths. The American Red Cross has been doing it that way for 40 years, but say there's always a possibility it may change depending on whether guidelines do.

"Teaching lifesaving skills in first aid and CPR is a process that evolves, is dynamic, and it grows based on the most current and contemporary science available," said Lonnie Kirby with the American Red Cross.

The Emergency Cardiac Care Conference takes place this year and based on recommendations there, the current method may or may not be changed.
