Just before midnight on Tuesday May 17, a grandmother and her grandchild were asleep on a couch when they had a rude awakening.

"All I did, I was sitting on the sofa with me and my granddaughter, and when I hear the shot, I fell off the sofa, crawled away and went downstairs," said Minnie Green.

Disrupting a quiet house on the 900 block of South 1st Street, someone shot a gun through Minnie's living room window. The bullet whizzed through the screen, the curtain, and into their living room table, just missing Minnie and her granddaughter.

Police reports say the shooter came to the door first before firing through the window.

"Something drew their attention to the door. An unknown black male was standing outside the door. They inquired what he was doing there, and then they thought that he left," said Sgt. David Jones from the Charlottesville Police Department. "Shortly after, they noticed someone at the window. Then a single shot was fired."

The man ran away on foot.

Police scoured the scene for evidence, even bringing in canines, looking for anything to help them trace back to the person who lodged a bullet into Minnie's table and brought fear into her home.

"We're scared they are going to try that again," Minnie expressed.

Charlottesville detectives will continue to follow-up with the investigation.
