James Monroe $1 Coin Released

February 13, 2008

The U.S. mint introduced the new $1 James Monroe coin at the former President's home at Ashlawn Highland on Wednesday.

The coin is part of a series of presidential coins that are being released. This year's release coincides with the 250th birthday of James Monroe.

"This feels very exciting. You know this is the 250th anniversary year for James Monroe's birth and this sort of feels like a kick off event and we're very pleased that the mint is deciding to kick in with us in it."

The reverse side of the coin features an image of the Statue of Liberty.
