Local Volunteers Receive Award From Mississippi Governor

February 13, 2008

The Building Goodness Foundation was selected for a 2008 GIVE Award from the Mississippi Commission for Volunteer Service in recognition of their ongoing commitment to the Gulf Coast rebuild effort.

Immediately following Hurricane Katrina, Building Goodness Foundation began traveling to Pearlington, Mississippi, to build shelters for residents who lost most everything during the storm.

BGF work trips continue to head to Pearlington every other week to construct a 6000 sq. ft. community center. Completion is expected for the fall of 08. Charlottesville architecture firm, VMDO, designed the building and Martin Horn, Inc., manages the construction. Volunteers travel 1900 miles round trip in the BGF van and stay in the Pearlington Recovery Center during the week-long trips.

The GIVE Awards are presented by the Mississippi Commission for Volunteer Service in cooperation with the Office of the Governor.
