Daytron Washington appeared in court today as his friend, who accidentally shot him, walked into court with handcuffs.
The 16-year-old who shot Daytron plead guilty to three misdemeanors charges against him: reckless handling of a fire arm, possession of a concealed weapon, and juvenile probation violation.
"An investigation established that this was an accidental shooting between two friends," says Elizabeth Killeen, Assistant Commonwealth Attorney.
Washington is recovering at home in his mother's care, and the 16-year-old is detained in a detention center.
Testimony at the trial showed that the 16-year-old was not the only one with a weapon. Washington pulled out a knife when he and a group of friends, were what attorneys are calling, "horsing around."
That is when the defendant pulled out his gun, though police are still unaware of were it came from, and shot Washington in his stomach.
Daytron's mother, Lisa Washington, says that she wants justice to be served, but doesn't want the 16-year-old tried as an adult.
Both Daytron and his mother say they do not hold a grudge against anyone and they just want things to get back to normal.
Daytron will not return to school until August and says he can't wait until he is able to ride his bike and play basketball again.
The 16-year-old gunman will appear in court for his final deposition on June 7.
