The Jefferson Area Board for the Aging along with the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program recognized hundreds of volunteers during their 20th Annual Volunteer Luncheon at the Omni Hotel.
About 500 people are JABA volunteers. The organization says their volunteers put in more than $1 million worth of time. This year's volunteer of the year gives about 60 hours a month and says she's thrilled with the special recognition.
"It's a great honor I didn't expect it," said volunteer of the year, Elise Brigham.
"We're talking about children as well as elders who are making this a much better place for people to age and to live," said JABA CEO, Gordon Walker.
A check was also presented to Delegate Mitch Van Yahres, symbolizing the dollar value of all the JABA volunteer time this year.
