Residents will soon be able to write down their thoughts and opinions on a public chalkboard. The new monument is under construction on the downtown mall, in front of City Hall. It's sponsored by the Thomas Jefferson Center for the Protection of Free Expression. City Councilman Blake Caravati has been a fan of the wall since it was first suggested back in 1999.
"I trust the citizens of Charlottesville and this country a whole lot, and I'm looking forward to hearing their points of few, be they spoken or be they written, " he said.
The 60-foot long monument is scheduled to be completed this fall.
