Walking for a Cure

Video will be available shortly.

May 5, 2004

Thousands of people in Charlottesville hit the track over the weekend to walk for a cure for cancer.

The 11th Annual Relay for Life took place at Monticello High School, and participants walked for 24 hours starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday. The teams collected donations that will benefit the University of Virginia Cancer Research Center and the American Cancer Society.

Cancer survivors, family, and friends were excited to see all this support.

"The research is the most important part of all of this, and helping to find a cure for cancer, all the different types of cancer," said April Harris, a cancer survivor and planning committee member.

All of that walking paid off. More than 1,000 people participated in the relay, raising over $250,000 to help find a cure.
