With this warm weather we're in, officials are stressing the importance of water safety. The Charlottesville Coast Guard Auxiliary held their Children's Water Safety Saturday.
Children were able to play on boats and try on life jackets, educating them about the importance of playing it safe. The coast guard says this is a good time to teach children as well as parents about water safety, with summer vacations right around the corner.
"Well we want the kids and their parents to learn that wearing a personal flotation device is a wise decision when you're out on the water, or working over the water," said Jim Crosby of the Coast Guard Auxiliary.
The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries as well as the Game Warden and the Charlottesville/Albemarle Rescue Squad all participated in this weekend's activities.
