Four Virginia dad have been named "Fathers of the Year" by the Father's Day Council and the American Diabetes Association.

One of those honorees is Dr. Eugene Barrett, a Professor of Medicine at UVA. Barrett and the other fathers were chosen for excelling in their professional and personal lives, while striving to improve.

"I think it's more a sense of stepping back and saying 'Gee here are some folks who are representative of many people, who are trying pretty hard to work well in their community, while doing a responsible job of raising a family,' which I think is a nice thing to step back and recognize," says Barrett.

The fathers were honored at a testimonial dinner, in which all of the proceeds will go to the American Diabetes Foundation to promote education and research about the disease.
