There are not enough teaching candidates in the area, so local school districts are bringing them here.
This is the third year "Kids First" has recruited applicants--many of them from out of state--to interview on-the-spot. Charlottesville City, Albemarle, Louisa, and Orange County representatives were there. Although they work together, the schools generally have the same needs of Special Education and Spanish.
"In some areas, English. Math would also be an area. English as a second language would also be an area that would be considered a hard to fill," said Mitsuko Clemmons, who helped organize the job fair.
"An example of an overage position would maybe in the area be Sociology, or Social Studies or Phys Ed," said Cecil D. Thompson, Jr. of Charlottesville Schools.
There were about 150 interviews today with Orange County most heavily recruiting about 50 open spots, which is their largest turnover ever.
