Madison County and Green County Fire Volunteer and Rescue teams responded to a house fire around 4 a.m.
We were told that emergency teams put out the fire quickly, but the home was still destroyed.
Once the fire was extinguished, the body of the man who lived in the home was found. Police are not releasing the name of the man until relatives have been contacted.
"Right now it's being investigated by both the Madison County Sheriff's Office Investigation Unit and the Arson Investigation Unit of the Virginia State Police," said Leigh Purdum, Public Information Officer for Madison County. "This was to determine if the fire was from natural causes or set by an individual."
The Sheriff's Office said they don't expect there to be foul play involved, but since someone died in the fire they have to take extra precaution.
Neighbors spokes highly of the man. "He was loved in the neighborhood by everyone," said one neighbor. "Everybody loved him and he loved everybody, and his favorite person was his kitty-cat."
The body was taken to Fairfax and his death should be determined Wednesday after the autopsy results are in.
