Kaine Vetoes Two Gun Bills

March 4, 2008

Governor Tim Kaine has vetoed two bills that could have resulted in more concealed weapons in cars and restaurants.

One of the bills would have allowed people to transport a gun in a locked glove box or other interior compartment of a vehicle. Kaine said Tuesday that the measure would have endangered police during traffic stops.

The other bill would have allowed concealed weapons permit holders to carry hidden firearms into restaurants that serve alcohol as long as they didn't drink. Under current law, anyone carrying a gun into a restaurant must display it openly.
