Commission Prepares Recommendations For School Board

The Charlottesville School Board is getting help from the community before hiring a new superintendent.
The School Board Advisory Commission, made up of educators and business people met tonight to recommend qualifications for the candidates and processes for the search.
The committee created a timeline--allowing the public to voice comments in late August, begin screening applicants in September, and having two rounds of interviews before they offer a position in early November. However, the hire will not likely be announced until December.
"We want to make sure that this person has a strong education background, works well with people, is a good leader--a proven leader really, but he has to be someone who really knows education," said Rauzelle Smith of the Advisory Committee.
They will also suggest a community panel sit-in at least one round of interviews, to give the public a voice. The recommendations will be presented to the School Board on July 7th.
