Charlottesville Police say a man was shot at during an attempted robbery this afternoon. They are searching for three men they believe shot at a man after he refused to give them money during an attempted robbery.

Charlottesville Police got the urgent call just after 4:15 p.m. today for the sound of gunshots with a reported man down. When they responded to the corner of 7 1/2 Street and Pine Street, Southwest, they found a man had been the victim of a robbery but he was not shot, rather he was shot at.

"Three men tried to rob a gentlemen that was standing on the street. He was able to get away from them without anything being stolen. As they ran away from him, they fired at least one shot in his direction," said Charlottesville Police Lt. Gary Pleasants. "No one was struck and no one was injured. We are in the process of looking for the suspect vehicle."

Now the Charlottesville Police are looking for three black males driving a black older model Oldsmobile. The car has reported damage to the rear, like it had been involved in a prior accident and the passenger side mirror is taped on. The victim was not injured in the attack and police combing the scene for evidence found just one shell casing indicating a single shot fired.

Police believe they know the license plate of the car wanted in this crime. It is Virginia license plate JCB 5175. If you have any information, police are asking you to call Crimestoppers at 434-977-4000.
