'Fees for Services' Real Estate Companies in Higher Demand

Video will be available shortly.

June 14, 2005

With area homes in higher demand, it seems more and more people are finding other ways of selling their property. Over the past few years, certain fee for service companies such as Assist2Sell have nearly doubled nationwide. The company charges a flat fee of about $3,000 instead of the usual six percent that traditional real estate agents do. While some say it works, others believe that it's not all that it's cracked up to be.

"We offer all the same services. There really is no difference between what we do and a traditional type company, the only difference is that we charge less," said Assist2Sell broker, Anthony McGhee.

"Lots and lots and lots of their listings do not appear in the Multiple Listing Service (MLS), which means it's very difficult for other agents to know that those properties are indeed on the market," argued Century 21 agent, Ray Caddell.

Assist2Sell does offer the MLS service for a three percent fee. However, most traditional agents believe their own methods will still remain successful.
