Toscano Wins Primary

Video will be available shortly.

June 14, 2005

Political experts were calling it a win for David Toscano early in the evening. It didn't take long for the numbers to start rolling in favor of David Toscano. The ex-Mayor of Charlottesville and ex-City Councilor took the city by storm winning with over 50 percent of the total votes. With the polls closing at 7 p.m., the totals starting rolling in around 7:45 p.m. and the party began at the Charlottesville Ice Park around 8 p.m.

For the candidate, this is step one in a much longer process. He will begin the journey for Richmond by campaigning against unchallenged Republican Tom McCrystal.

Toscano, who campaigned on the importance of education, said that he is looking forward to the challenges that lies ahead.

"I feel terrific. I thought I'd be pretty tired by now. I feel great, energized and ready for the next step. We've got to go through a November election now. This is just the first step. This is the sprint and now the marathon," said David Toscano.

Toscano will take the summer to prepare and then begin campaigning against McCrystal in the fall in hopes of taking the seat from Mitch Van Yahres. Van Yahres decided not to run after 20 years of public service. The election is of course set for the first Tuesday in November.
