Even though kids dream about this time of year, not everyone else can kick up their feet and relax. Human Resource departments are working hard to find good teachers for the following school year.

Both Charlottesville City and Albemarle County are searching for new teachers system wide to fill vacancies left after the end of this school year.

"I think we are looking for enthusiasm. We are looking for passion and compassion, and we are looking in Charlottesville City particularly, teachers that will be responsive to the needs of our diverse community," said Dr. Michael Heard, Director of Human Resources for Charlottesville Public Schools.

In total, the city needs approximately 70 to 80 new teachers to fill vacancies left by internal movement, promotions and retirements. Albemarle County approximates that they will need 130 to 140 qualified teaches for the 2005/2006 school year.

"We want of course great teachers. We are looking for diversity with regards to backgrounds," said Mitsuko Clemmons-Nazeer, Human Resources Manager of Elementary Education for Albemarle County Public Schools.

One of the many methods administrators use is a round robin job fair. Tomorrow, four school systems--the City, Albemarle County, Louisa County, and Orange County will hold the Kids First Job Fair at the Cavalier Inn from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Each system will have representatives interviewing candidates and searching for the future teachers of America's youth.

"Often times we will end up interviewing some of the same candidates, but it gives candidates choices with regard to where they want to work. In addition to that, it also gives us an opportunity or choices to look at multiple candidates," said Clemmons-Nazeer.

And while the quotas are important, the goal is to find highly qualified educators.

"We want all kids to succeed academically," said Dr. Heard.

Albemarle County expects over 70 candidates at tomorrow's job fair. From that pool they hope to find several good teachers.
