June 29, 2005

Piedmont Virginia Community College graduates now have a better chance of moving on to a four-year university, thanks to an agreement with Long University

Piedmont Virginia Community College signed an agreement with Longwood University located in Farmville. It allows PVCC students who graduate with an associate degree in arts or science and have at least a 2.5 GPA will be guaranteed admission to Longwood as a junior. All credits earned at PVCC will also transfer to Longwood.

"We're just very pleased that our students will have the opportunity to go to such a fine institution and earn their bachelor's degrees," said PVCC President, Frank Friedman.

"I think it will provide some wonderful access and opportunities for people who would otherwise may not be able to do it or choose to do it," said Longwood President, Patricia Cormier.

The agreement goes along with Virginia's Higher Education Restructuring Act, which is aimed at providing two-year grads with more opportunities at four-year institutions. PVCC also has agreements with eight other state universities.
