Is Your Car Dependable?

Video will be available shortly.

June 29, 2005

J.D. Power and Associates released their 2005 ranking of the most reliable cars.

The list is out naming the most dependable car on the street, and the question is, who is #1?

For the 11th consecutive year, Lexus takes home top honors.

The study done by J.D. Power and Associates ranked dozens of cars on how dependable the vehicle was to the original owner. They chose the top vehicles on responses from 50, 635 original owners of 2002 modeled cars and light trucks.

The Porsche came in second and Richard Lang, from Crown Porsche in Charlottesville says, "The engines are incredibly well made; they're smooth, the performance is outstanding. The driveablility is the driving experience. The cars handle incredibly well; they're a pleasure to drive."

Driving aone of those more dependable cars can be a luxury, but that doesn't mean that you can't run into problems. Most mechanics say, dependability comes with regular maintenance checkups.

"You plan your visit to the repair shop the same as your doctors appointments," said Tom Linkous, Sr. of Tom's Auto Service. He said that the type of car can determine some things, but any car can be dependable with quality care.

"It all boils down to oil change, do your preventative maintenance on a regular schedule; that's going to prolong the life of that [vehicle]," he explained.

So whether your car is #1, or at the bottom of the list, a little tender loving care will take you where you need to go.

"Quality is not expensive, it's priceless," said Linkous.

The Top 20 Ranks are as follows:

1. Lexus
2. Porsche
3. Lincoln
4. Buick
5. Cadillac
6. Infiniti
7. Toyota
8. Mercury
9. Honda
10. Acura
