Thanks in part to Congressman Virgil Goode, the Lake Monticello Water Rescue Team has a new patrol boat.

Goode's seat on the Congressional Boating Caucus helped the department get the watercraft, which is loaned by Ace Marine. Rescue Officials are looking forward to hitting the waters with the new jet-propelled boat. They say it's small size allows for easier maneuvering in the water and faster response times.

"Whether it's a stranded swimmer, or one of our divers that's performing a function, we can have a craft in the water that's jet-propelled rather than prop-propelled, and it means safety, for one thing," said Steve Martin, Captain of the Lake Monticello Water Rescue Team.

The water rescue team will use the boat for about nine months.
