Both Virginia Senators John Warner and George Allen, were in the Valley tonight. There was one question on many people's mind: Will our senator run for President? George Allen kept his answers focused on today.

"I'll have to be alive in 2008, but my focus is listening to the people of Virginia, being as responsive and helpful as a US Senator for the people of Virginia as possible," said Senator George Allen.

The valley turned out strong support of Allen in the past. At the rally, many showed their current support by wearing shirts that read: Allen for President 2008.

"I think we are all concentrating on getting him re-elected in 2006 right now, and then we'll worry about 2008 when it comes, but he'd be a mighty good president," said supporter Bill Howell.

"I think that he has the leadership skills to take the country where we need to go," said supporter Dan Baxley.

Even Senator John Warner wouldn't give away any hints on the future.

"I'm proud [that] George and his family would make a commitment to look at it. Don't worry--I'm just going to stay where I am. I'm very happy and delighted to be in the Senate, but if he does run I'll have double duty for awhile and I"ll handle it alright," said Sen. John Warner.

The Senators were joined by other Republican State Leaders at the First Annual Harley Hog Fest barbecue at the Harley Davidson Shop in Staunton, who recently hosted a stop on the Carry the Flame Tour.

"The importance of the Rolling Thunder to our veterans and what they have done through the years to help the MIAs [and] Prisoners, it's very important what this organization has done. I salute them," said Warner.

Warner also spoke about the Meadowcreek parkway--and said as an alumnus of the University of Virginia he was thrilled to be able to help with funding.
