There comes a time when the fun and the summer vacation must come to an end, and beginning next week that time will come for Fluvanna County school students.

Boxes line the hallway and teachers are stacking book shelves. It's the sight that bring a phrase to mind that many students don't like to hear, 'back to school'.

Before returning from that two month vacation, there are a few things that parents and students should start now.

"It should be getting the kids back into their bedtime and morning routine, so that they're getting enough rest," explained said Betina Grooms, 4th grade teacher at Central Elementary.

This time of the year many students typically get nervous about starting a new school year with new teachers and classmates, but the students aren't the only ones that get a little nervous.

"Not with the children. I get more nervous when I have to do things with adults," said Grooms. "With the kids I'm having a ball, it's a blast."

One way to familiarize you and your child with teachers and the school administration is visit the school. Central Elementary School in Fluvanna County is one school that normally holds an open house type of event called "Business Day" held the Thursday before school starts.

"It gives the students an opportunity to come and meet their teachers, see where their desk is; the opportunity to bring their supplies to school prior to riding the bus on the first day," explained Central Elementary Principal Tom Patrick.

An event like this is just one way for students to get rid of those first day jitters, and a way for parents to ease their minds. Making out a schedule that you and your child can easily follow could help with the students grades, and time management. Schedules should include the amount of after school free time the child is allowed, as well as time spent on homework.

Fluvanna public schools start August 15.
