Local Frustrations With Piedmont Housing Alliance

Some local residents' patience is wearing thin after years of delayed promises from the Piedmont Housing Alliance.

"I've talked to them countless times and they're fully aware of the situation," explained Tenth and Page Resident Allyson Crawford.

It's been two years of promises and little action by the Piedmont Housing Alliance, according to Crawford.

"We can have intruders anytime at night walking through our property, and it's just not very safe," she said.

Crawford purchased a home through PHA two years ago. At that time, the organization made a list of promises, including fencing in her property and putting in a driveway. Those promises have yet to be fulfilled.

"There's lumber and debris back there, and bricks and cement and things like that where animals can hide. The bushes need to be cut down," says Crawford.

In response, PHA says they are working as quickly as possible to address her and others' concerns.

"We haven't forgotten them," says Mark Watson, PHA's Director of Project Development. "I think they've been incredibly patient, and we hope to have everything done at John St. and Page St. within the next year."

These are promises Crawford and fellow residents hope they'll make good on. "They've finished other projects, and they've done beautiful work there, and I just want my home to look just as beautiful," she explained.

The Newsplex spoke to other Tenth and Page residents who share Crawford's concerns. PHA has done a lot of work in the neighborhood, and the residents are very grateful for that, but are anxious to get their property issues resolved in a timely fashion.

PHA says that fencing in the area is scheduled to go up this week and sidewalks within a month. As for the debris, contractors have been directed to clean it all up by this week.
