For the next three months Albemarle County will work to reduce the illegal signs with a pilot program aimed to educate the public about illegal signs.

County Community Relations Manager, Lee Catlin, says signs create visual clutter, which can be a dangerous distraction to drivers.

"Zoning inspectors will be going out every other Saturday to document the signs that are illegally in the right of way," Catlin explained.

The document inspections will begin this Saturday, but the program will focus on educating violators, not ticketing them. If a sign is spotted, the owner will be contacted and informed on the violation.

The zoning inspections will start August 13, and run through November 5.
